Pink Think: "I never have any problem getting enthusiastic with a good song and a good band." - Waylon Jennings

My husband and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary July 10th by going out to dinner and then stopping in on the International Jazz Festival at Salt Lake City.
I appreciated my husband for being willing to go with me even though it is not his scene. Not that jazz is, necessarily, mine, but I love going out to live music and a party.
[I wondered aloud how we have lasted this long when our tastes in evening entertainment couldn't be more different, but I guess our secret is we are willing to do each other's "thing". A case in point: when we started dating, we went to a Latin dance (my pick) and an elk ranch (his pick) within the same month.]
Midway through the last band, we got up to the back of the audience so I could sway and dance. I find it hard to understand how people can just sit politely to toe-tapping music. I'm sure it has to do with not wanting to look foolish...but the fun that is missed!

What band/performer have YOU most enjoyed watching live?
Mine would have to be The Guess Who a decade ago. I went with a girlfriend and she and I danced at our seats the entire evening.

Congratulations on 17 big ones. Here's to many, many more!
Congratulations! It sounds like you have a very happy marriage.
I would have to say my favorite band to listen to live were the B-52s. We saw them at an outdoor arena in which we could only get seats on the grass, but it made for fun dancing with a crowd. :)
I admit, I'm not much of a concert-goer, but I do get caught up in music.
Happy Anniversary!
whoot there ya go
congrats and time to do a special deed for the dude
he is a keeper as you know
concert not big into them lots of people but i actually loved ok dont laugh at me i loved John Denver he was moving and made you feel like it was a quiet lil spot instead a concert hall
boy george singing accappella (ok i cant spell) was amazing when the sound system screwed up in the club he sat on edge of stage and just gave us his heart
Wow and congrats on the seventeen years!
I would say my favorite was this local band called Steppin' In It. Those guys can play...
Happy 17 years!!! That's wonderful!
The only live band I've listened to is Forget the Girl. However, I want to go see Switchfoot sometime. Or Taylor Swift. Either one. Oh, and Brooke Fraser with her band.
Congratulations!!
I saw a lot of bands in the late 90s, early 00s (that looks weird). Some of my favorite live shows:
Blink 182
Everclear
Beastie Boys
Sting
Gipsy Kings (AWESOME)
Bush (mmm, Gavin)
Tracy Chapman
Live
And so on...
You can't go wrong quoting Waylon.
Seventeen years - that's awesome Jewel!! Congratulations!
My favorite live music is taking in a day at Milwaukee Summerfest celebration. Ten days of live music, from every genre possible, all on the Lake Michigan lakefront - music all day and well into the night.
Happy Anniversary!
What a great relationship you have - made all the more richer by your willingness to compromise and enjoy each others' picks.
Hmm, my favorite concert? That's so hard to pick just one. I saw Michael Jackson on his Thriller tour when I was like 14 years old. I wasn't a Jackson fan, really ... you know, no more than usual anyway. But holy smokes he put on a great show.
Congrats! Hubby and I are about to hit 15 this august. It's nice to hear about long lasting relationships. :-)
17 years! That's how long I've been alive. Wow. Congrats, we've both made it this far. :)
Congratulations!! That's awesome. :)
Congratulations on your 17 years.
My favorite live show ever was Pearl Jam in Winnipeg in 2005. The whole crowd was on their feet from start to finish, dancing, singing. I am not a dancer but I danced the whole time. There was just so much energy in the building, it was overwhelming.
It really was a magical experience and everyone I've talked to who was there describes it as a magical experience; one of the best nights of their lives.
I doubt I will ever see a show as good as that one.
Happy Anniversary!
Seventeen years. So sweet. :)
Congrats on your 17th! May you be able to enjoy your 34th in the same way that you enjoye your 17th.
I would have to say that the only band that I enjoyed listening to live (only because they been so few and far between), is a cover band called "Shaded Soul".
I may not be able to dance, but they are an enjoyable band to watch/listen to.
Don: Thanks!
Lynn: I love the B-52s, esp. Love Shack. One of my favorite songs ever.
Janna: Thank you!
Lynette: I love John Denver, too. Have you seen his DVD with the Muppets?? It's awesome. (I am serious!). Boy George singing acapella? Wow, that would have been fun to here.
BJ: Thanks!
Spamwarrior: I have heard that Taylor Swift puts on amazing concerts.
Melanie: If you lived around here I'd invite you to mine ;-).
Travis: He's a country singer, right? :-)
Lance: Thanks. Wow, that sounds like a fun event! I hope to go to more music festivals, too.
Ali: Thank you. That would have been an amazing show to see.
Angela: Thank you!
Georgie: Your comment made me smile :-). TY!
Heather: Hi! Thanks.
David: Thanks for stopping here. Yeah, I can see what you mean. I love that kind of energy in an event/concert. I miss being in the city for that reason...even though I love where I live now.
Gypsy: Thanks!
G: I hope so, thanks!!
Hey Jewel! shoot me an email ... You're a WINNER!!
Heh, one of the shows I most enjoyed going to was back in the early '90s -- Faith No More at the Roseland in NYC. I got to crowd-surf and get right up to Mike Patton in the front. Years later when Mike Patton was opening for The Who at The Garden, my brother and I tried to sneak into his dressing room to meet him but were caught by security. It was all in good fun.
Congrats on all those years. May you have many more of dancing and visiting elk ranches! ;-)
Living in Nashville, I have access to great live music anytime. I just don't do the bar scene much anymore and going downtown to hang out amongst the tourists just doesn't sound like a good idea most of the time!
Congrats on 17 years!
Happy Anniv!!! (just a little late:)
Congratulations on 17 years!!
Congrats on your Anniversary! 17 years is a long time. Don't question it, if it works, then it was meant to be. Besides, it makes things more interesting if you don't have everything in common, IMO.
