Why Pink (Ink)

Pink Think: "He likes to wink and drink pink ink." - Dr. Seuss on the Yink in One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

This post answers a question asked here by SuZ, which was, "Why pink?"

I used to love red. But over the last few years, I have calmed to pink because I love being a girl, not so much warrior-woman-hear-me-roar.

I recently rediscovered the color purple. If I could wear purple every day of this month, I would. Fortunately, I only own five purple tops, so my family is lucky they don't have to think blueberry whenever they see me.

Yes, the things I think about to distract myself from queries...

***
It's a good thing I don't change blog names with each color obsession. I could have another blog called Purple Prose, for instance. As it is, I have a horse blog called Green-Broke and a horror blog called Black-Out.

Yep, I have color on my brain.

Here's why: when I was a child, I was shut up in the attic of an old house, deprived of all color.

Just kidding. It's just my overactive imagination talking. Hey wait a minute. That sounds like a good plot for a story! Excuse me a moment while I...

***
I named this blog Pink Ink because:
1. I love the color pink
2. I love to write
3. I love Dr. Seuss

Why did YOU name your blog what you did?

Pink Ink is a great name.
I made pink my signature color even.
I agree we are girls at any stage of our lives.
My blog name. Crazed Mind (use to be Travels through a Crazed Mind)
Well it is because I was committed when I was 35. I found out I had a mental illness my whole life and never knew it. And I am so thankful for the help. But at the same time I treasure my Crazed Mind because it is what me unique.

One day that line from Lewis Carroll popped into my head, and I said to myself, "That would be a perfect name for a blog about many things." I liked it so much, I immediately went out and claimed it, although I had to put hyphens in. It took me a few weeks before I actually started saying anything.

And that's where the name "The Walrus Said" came from.

Heather of the EO said...

you were locked in an attic????

kidding, I did read the post thoroughly and know it was a joke.

I sometimes don't even know if I like the name of my blog. The Extraordinary Orindary is quite cheesy, but it suits my feelings on my life. It's ordinary, but there are so many extraordinary things about it. Like the blue of my little one's eyes. Stuff like that. See? I'm cheesy. :)

Big Plain V said...

I'm plain and my last name starts with 'V'. No explanation for the 'big' part.

Polenth said...

I called it "Polenth's Quill" because my name is Polenth and it had writing stuff. Quill also has an older feel, more like a fantasy. I could have gone for the science fiction approach, but "Polenth's High-Tech Future Writing Gadget" wouldn't have fitted in the space.

And no, my blog name wasn't the most creative.

My daughter loves pink. It was hard for me at first since I have a die hard obsession with black. And then one day she came home with a pink and black striped hat and said, "look mom, it's the best of both of us." I had to agree. It was indeed. I still don't wear pink, but I respect it for the color it is. :) Loved your post.

It seems that I live on my laptop some days. Hense "My Life in a Laptop."

I love the color pink. But for a funny reason. In a writing exercise I wrote that my 6' 2" manly main character liked pink. And it stuck. Now if I need to use my MC I put on a pink shirt and he is there grumbling.

LOL! You make me giggle. :D

Something She Wrote first started as the name for my writing and editing business. I'd been thinking about the old Angela Lansbury show Murder, She Wrote, and was thinking something She Wrote. Wait! That's it! And I liked it so much, I used it for my blog, too. It's rather fitting, I think. ;)

I live right across the street from my blog's namesake. Additionally, I had a chat room persona (still do as a matter of fact) called Cedar Mountain, in which I played the Father Nature/Mother Nature bit to the hilt and beyond.

So when my friend suggested I start a blog, that was the first name that popped into mind.

I wouldn't dream of calling it anything else.

CC said...

I agree with the others; Pink Ink is so catchy and cute. It made me visit your blog!

My other blog, "My Secret Candy" is because most people don't know of my nickname (you do now...). There's another blog just called Secret Candy and I was so mad about that at first. I'm over it now.

CC said...

Oh yeah, I am obsessed with the color purple! I love that its the main color you choose in the Wealth are of Feng Shui. Though, I don't like it in cars.

Melinda said...

I like to think and drink pink ink, too. :-)

I call my blog Pell Mel. Mel for my name and pell mel after the pokie Little Puppie's sibling Also, it is a word from the 1500's meaning confusion or disorder. Like my thoughts...

Denea said...

Pink Ink. I love the name. so catchy!

I had trouble choosing the name for my blog. It was someone else's suggestion, actually, but I thought about it and went with it. 'An Unusual Outlook on Life' does a pretty good job of describing my perspective on most situations; I don't think the same way a lot of other people my age seem to.

spyscribbler said...

That is so cool!

Um. I have 811 posts up, three years, I think? At least two. And I still haven't come up with a name. This is a problem. Maybe I need to ask for suggestions.

Lance said...

Hi Jewel,

I think the name "Pink Ink" is very cool - and I love how your incorporate the "Pink Think" at the start. For me, "Jungle of Life" comes from the idea that life can seem like a jungle sometimes (well, mine does anyway!!) - and I'm working my way through, finding paths through that jungle that lead me on the journey of my life...

Pink Ink said...

Lynette: Yeah, our experiences - good and bad - shape the person who we are. I admire you for being so open; you inspire me for being able to work through it!

Janet: I think when I saw your blog name, I thought of the Beatles song :-) but now I know better!

Heather of the EO: I HAD seen that phrase before -Extraordinary Ordinary - but didn't connect the two till now. (I used to wonder what county/region has EO initials - I take some things literally :-P) Great phrase, and it's so apt about motherhood!

BPV: I wouldn't have thought of you as the "plain" sort.

Polenth: Your blog name has a nice ring to it. And I love your first name. What does it mean?

Pink Ink said...

Julie: My daughter doesn't like pink either, we're quite opposites in fact. This keeps her from raiding my closet :-) too much. That's cool your daughter recognizes the BEST in both of you.

Noble: I hear you about writing on the laptop. And any man who likes to wear pink is manly in my book!

Janna: That was my guess about your blog title, and yes, it's very fitting!

Georgie: You mean a literal mountain? Sounds awesome.

CC: Oh, and I forgot to say I picked "Pink Ink" because I have a thing for rhyming catchphrases :-) It's actually not the only one out there in webland, so I know what you mean about someone having something similar. But it's the only one with a Pinay blog-author that I know of :-P My Secret Candy is a fun name!

Melinda: Very clever! I love the play on your name and I've always thought your layout is cool.

Denea: *I don't think the same way a lot of other people my age seem to.* That's great.

Spy: You don't? Honestly? I've always thought it was "Spy Scribbler". How about "The Spy Who Wrote Me" or "Notes on the Sly"?

Lance: Yeah, the Pink Think was a fun twist on the name. Jungle of Life is very fitting, and you are a great safari guide.

Blackbird: Ah, I see now. Some days feel like that to me *asleep at the wheel* (How was the trip to the dentist? Or should I not be asking?)

Melanie Avila said...

I came up with my title because the most common question I got from people was "What are you doing in Mexico?" It's also the last sentence in the opening paragraph of my memoir (which is shelved for the moment).

Not too creative, but it fits. Now when I get that question, which happens a lot since I'm always finding friends on Facebook, I reply "funny you asked," and send them the link. :)

Auds at Barking Mad said...

This is a great idea for a post and I love learning the reason behind the name of your blog!

"Barking Mad" is something the Brits say a lot. I picked it up when I lived over there with my British hubby. And it's kind of apropos for our family and all the crazy, funny stuff that happens -- especially as it relates to our pets and toddler.

My blog is called 'The Klutz's Corner" because I am a MAJOR klutz. It is also called corner for a reason too. It is my little tinny corner of the internet, where I can post what I want and do what I want with it. Plus it is a safe place unlike most of the internet.

Yep that is how it came to be :) Like you really like the color pink. I am obsessed with it I think... well some days I am. My favorite shirt is pink my favorite belt in pink with studs... yeah I could go on and on :D

Well, Best Posts of the Week is a little obvious. My personal blog, Not So SAHM is named that because I'm a stay at home mom, but I don't consider myself to be a very typical SAHM. Sometimes I want to change it, but I haven't come up with anything to change it to.

LadyFi said...

Loved this post... was shut up in an attic and deprived of colour... Actually, I think this has been a plot for a story. Just can't remember which one! Dr. Seuss is great!

I couldn't think of a good name but wanted to have a quirky blog so called it: Quirky Quest. However, as most people know me as Lady Fi, I'm gradually trying to change over to that name instead...

After The Blackbird Sings said...

It actually went fairly well, except he wants to take my wisdom teeth out...grrrrrr

Pink Ink said...

Melanie: I wondered that same thing!

Auds: As your last post attests! :-)

Poptart: Hey, Bella was a "klutz" too :-) though I don't think of you that way. As for pink, you should see my closet.

BPOTW: You love acronyms, obviously.:-) Not so SAHM says a lot in so little.

Lady Fi: It is??

*googles 'locked in attic'*

Are you thinking of Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews?

I guess there goes one story plot.

Blackbird: Oh no. Grrr, indeed.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a "horror blog" before. I'm a fraidy cat, so I think I'll stick with Pink Ink.

I had a hard time naming my blog since so many domain names were taken. It took me months to even start my blog because I was in need of a name (and I didn't want to keep changing it). Finally I just had to suck it up and come up with some random ideas. I sent my top three to a friend, and went with her advice (which actually wasn't my top choice). It all worked out in the end. I love my blog name.

really long story.

I find the name "pink ink" attractive. It is light (because it is a shade of red), playful and feminine. I like it!!

As for my site, I wish that I chose something shorter. It's quite a mouthful. Also, I'd prefer it to be more reflective of my intent in sharing about my personal journey.

Alison Wonderland said...

Alison Wonderland because my whole life when I've said my name was Allison people have said "Like Allison Wonderland?" and I've wanted to say "no, you idiot, that's Alice IN Wonderland and you're too stupid to live" but I've restrained myself. But now I can just say "yes."

Pink Ink said...

Elizabeth/Overlord: I always smile when I see your blog name :-)

Kate: Makes me hungry :-) I love what it implies.

Leah: Thanks. A great title for an important job.

Elizabeth: Very fitting.

Evelyn: Nice to see you here. Maybe you ought to, then :-)

Alison: I always thought it was a clever spin on the name.

Also, in our house we have three girls:one guy (not as lopsided as some families go). The bristling acres comes from the extremely nasty thorny black locust trees. They have thorns that are many inches long. Youch! (oh...and I just couldn't think of anything clever)

Mrs.Incredible...or so they think

that's my blog name. I had a girl at work who would call me Mrs.Incredible (from the movie, The Incredibles). Well, lets see... my address is spell2write which is a take on Montessori think - children learn best when they start learning spelling to learn to write to learn to read.

I opened my blog LONG before I ever wrote my first post, so now it's not so much a Montessori blog as it is about my life in general. Hence, the generic "My Life and How I Live It"

My subtitle is a better description as I have all girls who have tons of hairbows, a house full of toys, and a cat that sheds all the time. So sometimes I literally feel like I'm drowning in all that stuff...

Like the name! I love red AND pink, too. In fact I just love a lot of color. It makes me happy! Have you ever been to Meg's blog "whatever"? TONS of color on that blog...love it!

My blog "Boogers, Bibs, Books & Bubbles" was named because that is what my day is full of. My other blog "Rusty Cottage" was named because my husband and I inherited his parent's old cottage and we were in the process of fixing it up. But have since put that huge project to the side for various reasons.

Happy SITS day!

Congrats on your SITS feature! I really adore your blog and your featured posts. I think I'll hang out here for a while. :)

In answer to your question, I named my blog after something that I say. I didn't know that I said it, but every year, my new students would call me on it the first time I use this phrase. Here's the situation: I'm calling the class to order, and we're getting ready to start a new ____. I say, "Ok, class, here's what let's do: ______"

Invariably, the class erupts. "What?"
"What did you say?"
"Can you even say that? You're an English teacher!"
...and so on.

They get used to it. And I think it's a great, fitting title for my random blog of randomness.

Happy SITS day!

Fairy Princess Garden said...

Happy SITS Day! Pink Ink goes very well. We love PINK and my 3yo LOVES Purple. Let's see my blog is tied to my website which is named after my 3 fairy princesses. I have little girls who love to dress up as Fairy Princesses therefore I have a garden of them...they look so Fairy like when they dress up and play in the yard during spring and summer and play with flowers and there is where my inspiration came from. Hence the name "The Fairy Princess Garden" cheesy, huh?

My blog name is Home of the Lazy Dog because, well, I fancy myself a lazy dog!

Your blog name is fantastic. It's catchy and cute, and different. :)

Love your blog name. Pink is fantastic and girlie!

I think your blog name is totally cute. I wanted to name mine A Brand New Me, because I have so many great plans for myself this year. However, every variation of that name was already taken, so I chose This Is The Year, because this is the year I will make it all happen!

I like pink in every shade! I love the name.

My family blog name is rather boring...4kennedys...for well...the four of us. But I did just start a new blog that I love the name of....Butterflies found at www.doyougetbutterflies.blogspot.com. It is a blog for me to post about everything that gives me butterflies!

happy Sits day!

Love your post. My blog is Little Everyday Things. It took me a while to come up with a name, and even though I think it's a tad long, I love it :) My blog is all about those little everyday things that are part of my life that I want to share. Happy SITS day!

I think my blog name would make a cool name for coffee.

LOL
You cracked me up with the "when I was a child, I was shut up in the attic of an old house, deprived of all color." That was funny stuff. Well, unless it was true of course!

Let's see. I am a married mom of 3. The Fam Five. As simple as you can get! LOL

I guess an attic is better than a basement... less dungeon-y.

I wanted a line that said it all, and cleared up any questions right from the start....

Hence.... "The Dog's a boy too"

Happy SITs day!

I am an accountant & my husband works for the state Department of Revenue. We joke (ok, not a joke) that when we go on a romantic date, we talk about taxes, depreciation, and the basis of partnership interest. I decided that "The Amortization of Goodwill" sounds sexy, even if it isn't. The other blog is "The Matriarch's Corner" & I think I was just full of myself that day. Or channeling my mother, may she please rest in in peace.
I love your explanation & will continue to check out your blog!

I named mine url address "safebeauty" b/c all of the other creative ones I wanted were taken and that name was still truest to what I wanted to convey. My page is named Natural & Organic Body Care b/c I review more than just skin care products. I want everyone to have full BODY awareness....tada! That's how I named my blog.

My best, Lynn

A name is important. Pink Ink is great. One of my blogs titles has to do with my EX & his wedding. Some friends & family members say I'm "letting him define me." I say it's just too good (and funny) to give up.
Congrats on Pink Ink.

Reluctant Housewife said...

My husband teased me at some point during the first season of Desperate Housewives that I was a desperate housewife. I answered that I was not so much desperate as reluctant and my blog name was born.

Pink Ink IS a great name, and I do have to also say that I LOVE your header! Did you make it? I wish I could actually get away with having multi-colored lipstick and all that jazz :)

Thrifty and Chic Mom said...

My blog is Thrifty & Chic Mom because I love deals but I also love fashion and I am mom so it is me in a nutshell.

Pink Ink said...

Great comments, everyone! I love learning the story behind your blog names. I'm having fun checking the blogs out!

Jaden: I love my header, too, but no, I didn't make it. Sharnee over at Acornglue.com (see the button on the bottom left sidebar) customized this blog template for me to make it three-column with header buttons.

You are so fun! I really enjoy your blog. My blog name was created with no imagination so my link is still boring. However I changed my heading to Beauty Unveiled which is the name of a ministry I started at our church. The goal is to see women set free from wounds of their pasts so their true inner beauty in Christ can be unveiled. Every woman has a beauty of their own to unveil.

A little deep...sorry!

My blog is called Scientific Nature of the Whammy. It's from one of my favorite shows, The X-Files in an episode called Pusher.

Mulder: "Well ninjas are said to have the ability to cloud the minds of their opponents."
Scully: "Are we talking kung fu movies, Mulder?"
Mulder: "He certainly clouded the mind of that judge, Scully."
Scully: "Even if Modell could, he didn't need to. We barely had a case against him."
Mulder: "Oh we had enough to get past a simple preliminary hearing. Modell psyched the guy out. He put the whammy on him."
Scully: "Please explain to me the scientific nature of the whammy."

My tagline is 'looking for the silver lining behind life's whammies'.

I'm with you on the purple... but ummmm blueberry? Blueberries are blue, aren't they?

And my blog (Honest & Truly!) is from a saying I use frequently... and it's the idea I want to get across -- honest and truly, this is my life.

Pink Ink said...

Michelle: I don't know why I said blueberries. I guess I meant cooked blueberries because they turn out purple in muffins :-)

My blog is called Critical Mass because I started it as part of a weight loss plan. I had reached "critical mass" myself.

My blog's main theme is all about my life, and since I may be a mom to six kids soon, I knew that there would be a lot of chaos going on.. hence Chaos Chronicles.

I really love your blog and your writing style. I came here to check out your graphic after you said on AbsoluteWrite that you're thinking of changing it, but I really love what you've got to be honest.
Meanwhile, my blog is called Le Franco Phoney because I would like to be a Francophone now that I live in France, but I know I'm a phoney because I'm not French.

Pink Ink said...

Thanks April. I have this idea for a graphic knocking around in my brain, but since it costs some money, I'm not in a rush :-)

I've seen your blog name before and I thought it was very clever.

Positively Present said...

Pink is a great color and Pink Ink is a great name for your blog. Thanks for sharing the meaning behind it!

My blog Positively Present (http://positivelypresent.typepad.com) has the name that it does because, after years of being negative and Eeyore-like, I've decided to take my attitude into my own hands and try to live each day as positively and as present as possible.

My new motto is "live happily ever right now."

Hope you get a chance to check out the blog and you enjoy it!

Pink Ink said...

Welcome, Positively Present!

I love your philosophy. Things can't always be perfect, but I agree life is too short to dwell on the negative. We are truly blessed we just need to open our eyes.

Wow, interesting blog. You are a fantastic writer. I named my blog Potential 2 Success because I use to feel as though I had the potential to achieve more than I was (family, health, business, whatever). When I restructured my life and found the keys I was looking for, I decided to pass that info along.

Pink Ink said...

Thanks for stopping here, Ralph. I've checked out your blog, and I admire you for what you are accomplishing. Keep up the good work!

I love the name! Your posts are fun and real! I just started blogging and am working on a focus for my blog and redesigning the visual of the site. Some days I think, why do I need to have a focus? Can't I just write?

Pink Ink said...

Hi CougarTales! Welcome to blogging. I wouldn't worry about a focus for now. Just write posts that you want to, and the focus will find you :-).

CougarTales said...

Thanks, PinkInk, for checking out my blog and the kind words! My new design will be up soon. Hope you become a "follower"!

I like the name Pink Ink. I Love Dr. Seuss! Don't know why, because I've never had kids, but I've just alway enjoyed reading his books. Maybe it's my inner child wanting to come out.HaHa!Anyway, I just started blogging the first part of September, and my blog's name is PJ'sPrayer Line.Anyway, the purpose I started my blog is I enjoy witnessing to and praying with people and for them. I tell people if they would like, to leave their name and/or a prayer request in my comments section and I will place them on the side of my blog for people to see and pray for. I try to be as uplifting as possible because there is so much Yuck in this world. My blog name may not be very catchy or original as some, but it is heart-felt and I hope people will come and "chat" or leave prayer requests.
Sorry, (I tend to run on). I must have been a preacher in another life! LOL No offense intended Preachers! I love long-windedness! I bet you couldn't tell!

Come chat with me!

I love your blog name. I'm a huge Dr. Seuss fan. I have a star-bellied sneech that sits on my printer at work ;) I also want to have my child (when I have one) to have a Dr. Seuss room- I've already bought some stuff for it :)

My blog- Laugh.Write.Play- I named it because I love to laugh and find humor in almost everything. Write- well because I love to write, of course, and Play- for all the stuff in between :)

Great post!
